Philadelphia Marathon Course / Route

The Philadelphia Marathon course is definitely one of a kind. You'll run down from the begining at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and then around Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, and the Liberty Bell through the first half of the marathon, so it's quite a historical sightseeing tour so remember to look around you.

The second half will lead you along the Delaware River. There you will run past the leafy lanes of Philadelphia Waterworks and along the Schuylkill River. Specified "cheer zones" have been established for the support crews of the runners to cheer their favorite runners on in an organized manner, so although the route won't be lined with spectators, you will feel supported.

The Philadelphia Marathon is wonderful for the newbie marathon runner, largely because of the fairly flat surface. Anyone running in the Philadelphia Marathon will be able to use it as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.

Each runner will receive a small chip placed on their shoe that will provide them with a time for starting and finishing as well as the traditional "gun time." The starting point, throughout the race at various miles, and race finish will supply water stations. Supplies of Gatorade will begin at Mile 5 and continue until the race is over.

Everyone participating in the event can be photographed by Island Photography so you can have a great memento of your day.

There is always a very pumped up crowd at the Philly Marathon, between the spectators and the runners.Among the excitement of the marathon, you will also experience the thrill of being in one of the birthplaces of American Democracy.
