How to adjust the schedule if my marathon has been canceled

by luc lafranchise

Hello,

Today was a sad day. I was supposed to run on the marathon des deux rives (at Quebec city). The marathon has been canceled because of Irene. I ran a 21 km but I was so deceived that I made my inscription to another marathon. The 2nd of October.

My question: where do I start in my training schedule?

The last month is very easy and "cooling down" in all the marathon training. I think that if I do again the last five weeks, it will not do.

I thought to do the 9th, 10th and 11th weeks of the training schedule and, for the last two weeks, to do the last two weeks of the training schedule. Does it seem reasonable? Would you change it?

Thank again for you support.

Answer: Hi Luc, and thanks for your question.

I'm sorry to hear about the cancellation. The good news is : it may leave you even stronger.

Your suggested plan is exactly as I would suggest myself - and have suggested to some runners that have been in your position. You go back into the last weeks before the tapering period and then cut down the tapering itself just a little bit. So 9+10+11 then 14+15. Spot on.

I wish you all the best with your race, keep up the good training !

all the best,
Marius
